President's welcome letter
It is my utmost pleasure to welcome you to KAMUN’27.
I am George Banna, an eleventh grader at King’s Academy, and I am honored to serve as your president for this year’s Cuban Missile Crisis Committee (CMC). My passion for MUN comes from my longstanding love for everything to do with high stakes geopolitics and consequential history, and in this committee, it combines both.
Special Committees always stood out to me in MUN because of their ability to go outside the norm and explore topics in a way not possible with regular committees; every session promises a brand new challenge that will give you an opportunity to grow.
In the Cuban Missile Crisis Committee, delegates will face the unique pressure of trying to prevent WWIII. Just like the real crisis in 1962, you will be split into either the American or Soviet cabinet. Your primary challenge will be communication as you will be separated from direct communication lines and restricted to diplomatic backchannels. Even one misunderstanding can trigger global disaster.
As you prepare, I leave you with a quote from John F. Kennedy himself that I believe will give you confidence and a clear direction for this conference:
"Mankind must put an end to war before war puts an end to mankind.”
I cannot wait to meet all of you and see what your dedication, resilience, and creativity will bring to the table.
Best of luck,
George Banna
